... to any visiting this page.

While I do enjoy doodling and fool around with art as a hobby, it is not really why I'm here, which is why I don't tend to want critique on anything I post, and I probably won't post much art.

I am a game developer and I visit DeviantArt looking for people who I can pay to do artwork for me. It's tricky business, since I have a limited budget and I have to be able to find people who have good skills, at least a tiny bit of experience in whatever I'm pursuing at the time, and are willing to work for cheap.

For any of you out there who have hopes of being a pro, some general advice from ME on what I look for in a gallery:

1. Show yourself off! You'd think this would be obvious, but it isn't, to some people. People say "Well, I have this art posted, but I'm so much better now!" - If you're so much better now, POST YOUR NEW ART. Can you work in more styles than you're currently displaying? Then SHOW me! If I tell you I'm looking for pencilwork and you say you can do pencil but your whole gallery is non-pencil, I will ignore you. You don't have to post everything you've ever made to give a good overview of your skills.

2. Be careful about similarities. Does almost every single character in your gallery have the same pose, the same tilt of the head? Then I'm going to worry that it's the only thing you can draw. Which is fine if that's the thing I want, not fine otherwise.

3. Same character, different poses - This is a GOOD THING. Being able to make the same character recognisable in different poses and outfits is a key skill for story-based artwork. If you never have more than one picture of the same character, I don't know if you can maintain consistency.

4. Time is of the essence! Posting here and asking me to look at your art may get me to look at your art, but I'm only hiring when I need something done. And when I need something done, I usually post in job offers and get flooded as well as contacting individuals that I'm interested in. If it takes you two weeks to answer your email - too late! I've signed someone by then. If you want to take contracts, you have to be available, you have to be able to estimate when you can get the work done by.

All that said - good luck to all of you! :)
